There was colour, feathers and glitter galore at this year’s KFE Annual Ball where carnival and disco sensationally clashed.

Held at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfied on Sunday 18th May, the event welcomed over 180 guests and reflected our vibrant fish and chip industry.

Guests were greeted by stilt-walking showgirls, an aerial bartender and a live saxophonist, setting the tone for a high-energy evening. The room dazzled with colour, and the atmosphere was electric.

Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal, though few stayed in their seats for long as singer Nicole Lawrence took to the stage, filling the dance floor before starters even arrived.

The evening marked a special moment as Tanya Henderson, in her new role as Managing Director, took to the stage for her first welcome speech. She paid tribute to her dad, Paul Williams, who has stepped into the role of Chairman, enjoying his first ball without speech duties.

Despite his attempt to stay behind the scenes, Paul became the centrepiece of the night as Tanya honoured his contributions to the industry, celebrating his Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award at the National Fish & Chip Awards in February. A surprise ‘This Is Your Life’ video tribute featured heartfelt messages from friends and colleagues across Paul’s 40-year career, bringing tears to many eyes.

Paul later took the stage to thank guests before introducing the West End performance group Queenz, who brought the party atmosphere with two energetic sets and ensured the dance floor remained packed all night.

The entertainment didn’t stop there. Guests also enjoyed inflatable darts, basketball, and the ever-popular sumo wrestler suits. A glitter bar, along with candyfloss and popcorn, added to the carnival vibe, creating a night of fun for all.

Golfing glory

Earlier that day, the annual KFE Golf Tournament teed off on the iconic Brabazon course, where 26 players enjoyed the pristine fairways and greens.

– Ian Huddlestone, a guest of Mister C’s in Selby, won the tournament with an unprecedented 46 points.

– Ashley Swain from Whitstones Fish & Chips followed with 36 points to take second place.

– Colin Cromar of Middletons won Nearest the Pin.

– Mathew Lord from Friars Pride took Longest Drive.

– Lee Swain from Whitstones Fish & Chips claimed Nearest the Pin in Two.

In a light-hearted twist, Tim Barnes from Krispies was crowned Whoosh B***** winner with just 8 points, prompting speculation about whether he was trying to retain his title.

While the serious golfers competed for trophies, over 40 players took to the Ryder Legends mini golf for fun. KFE Financial Controller Matt Henderson triumphed with 32 points, while Jess Payne of Tower Finance claimed the Whoosh B**** trophy with a score of 67.

Reflecting on the weekend, Tanya Henderson said: “It was a high-energy party where guests were dancing from the start! The colour, entertainment and great company made it an unforgettable night. Once again, the weather was perfect for our golfers, whether playing for trophies or just for fun.

“It was fantastic to welcome just under 50 shops, including this year’s Fish & Chip Takeaway of the Year winners, Julie & Graeme Burrell from Yarm Road, as well as manufacturers QBTEC and fellow agents from Belgium and Ireland.

“A huge thank you to everyone who attended and to our amazing sponsors for making the evening such a memorable celebration!”
