Over 60 golfers took to the greens and the fairways of Hunstanton Golf Club for this year’s Duke of Edinburgh Cup East of England Qualifier, raising more than £23,000 for charity.

The tournament, hosted by ourselves and north Norfolk hotel Titchwell Manor, took place on Friday 26th April and was followed by a three-course meal, prize-giving and charity auction.

Unfortunately, no one drove away with the brand new BMW, a prize awaiting any player who hit a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. England Rugby player Will Greenwood came close, managing it the night before as the car was put into position, but sadly wasn’t able to replicate his master stroke on the day!

Tournament winners were KFE customer Mike Hulmes and dad Ged who qualify for a place in the Duke of Edinburgh Cup World Finals in September. Here, competitors from all over the world take part in a two-day tournament held over two top courses, followed by a round on The Royal Household Course at Windsor Castle.

Also included in the prize are five nights’ accommodation and a gala dinner at Windsor Castle in the presence of a senior member of the Royal Family.

It is the third year we have hosted the Duke of Edinburgh Cup World Qualifier and sees the total raised for charity in that time exceed £55,000.

The proceeds from this year’s tournament go to Norfolk-based charity Adapted Sports Hub Trust, who are fundraising for a £3m Paralympic-style sports facility in Kings Lynn adapted to suit those with disabilities.

Paul Williams, managing director at KFE, comments: “We are delighted to continue our association with the Duke of Edinburgh Cup and this year was, without doubt, our biggest and best event. Hunstanton Golf Course was in wonderful condition and all credit to Eric and his team in producing a very, very special day. It’s great to have raised funds to support a well-deserved local charity, Adapted Sports Hub Trust.

“Good luck to our winners Mike and his father Ged at the finals later in the year.”

Eric Snaith, owner of Titchwell Manor, adds: “What a great day! It’s an honour to be part of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup. Paul and I always wanted this event to be more than the average charity golf day, and we definitely achieved that. The course was fantastic, and the atmosphere throughout the day and evening was brilliant. I’m so happy to be helping some amazing local charities, and very grateful for all the generosity which helped us raise so much money.”

John Casserley, director of operations, Duke of Edinburgh Cup, also paid thanks to all those that organised and attended, adding:  “This event is going from strength to strength and for me, personally, I cannot wait for 2025.”
