The UK’s finest fish and chip shops have been shortlisted for the 23rd annual National Fish and Chip Awards.
The 30-strong list of UK contenders will battle for the main prize - ‘Best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop Award’.
All fish and chip shops on the shortlist will shortly receive an in-depth judging visit from an industry expert from Seafish, the authority on seafood, and details of the Top 10 UK shops will be announced in October, with a grand final taking place in London in January 2011.
Andy Gray, Customer Development Manager for Seafish commented 'The real competition starts here, and it's no secret that we Brits still take out fish and chips seriously after 150 years. The shortlisted shops have displayed quality product, a sustainable approach to sourcing supplies, wide-ranging knowledge and innovative culture - all the makings of a great modern chippy.”

Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2009/10
Codgratulations the winning trend continues....
The 22nd Fish & Chip shop of the year competition announced the winners in January following several rounds of judging, including customer voting and mystery visits will be reduce down to the top ten regional finalists. The top ten shops then faced a final judging panel in London in January to produce the eventual winner, congratulations to Giovanni Fionda of The Atlantic Fast Food Chippy.

Young Fish & Chip Fryer of The Year
KFE would like to congratulate Dan Harding of Angel Lane Chippie who came 1st in the Young Fish Frier of the Year award, also to Laura Spavin of Cleethorpes Mermaid who came third, this is a very pretigious award, previous winners have included fellow Kiremko range user Callum Richardson.
 
Good Catch Substainability Award
This new award has reconsinged the hard work that both Richard and Francis Ord of Colmans Fish & Chips have put not only into their own business but the local community and the industry. Previousally Fish & Chip Shop of the Year Runners up in 2008 congratulations from all at KFE.

Staff Training and Development Award
Kiremko range user Peter Fraser sent his staff up to receive this award to support all their hard work, he has recently put in a new Kiremko range into this shop to go alongside the one in his shop in Truro. Congratulations to Peter and all his staff at Harbour Lights, Falmouth.
Multiple Fish & Chip Operator
Congratulations to John Low and Stuart Devine from The Ashvale Group who were up for the new award for Multiple Fish & Chip Operator 2009.
